In celebration of August’s Black Philanthropy Month, The Black Philanthropy Initiative (BPI) awarded $9,650 in grants through its Impact Grants program.
BPI’s Impact Grants are investments in programs, projects, and initiatives supporting Forsyth County’s Black communities; grantees are local groups and organizations with annual budgets under $150,000. During this grant cycle, BPI requested video proposals from organizations or groups working in education, jobs and wages, poverty, civic engagement, criminal justice reform, or racial justice efforts. BPI prioritized Black-led organizations and programs working within predominately Black neighborhoods (including 27101, 27105, and 27107).

ADVANCING BOLD, BLACK-LED COMMUNITY CHANGE
In the fall of 2022, BPI announced its fundraising campaign entitled Advancing Bold, Black-led Community Change, with a goal of raising at least $2 million over three years. The vast majority of dollars raised will support BPI’s annual grantmaking programs, and the remaining will bolster BPI’s endowment to ensure grantmaking dollars are available for years to come. To date, BPI has raised just over $1.6 million from donors and community members and recently secured a $200,000 matching donation from an anonymous donor. Now all new gifts and pledges are being matched dollar for dollar up to $200,000, helping BPI raise the last $400,000 needed to reach its goal. Learn more and make a gift at bpiws.org/campaign.
UPCOMING FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FROM BPI
In 2024, BPI has provided over $134,650 in grants to local programs and initiatives, investing majority of those funds into Black-led organizations or schools supporting local Black communities. Currently, BPI offers three grant programs: Impact Grants, Advancing Equity in Education Grants, and Building an Inclusive Economy Grants. BPI will be accepting applications for its Building an Inclusive Economy grants program from Wednesday, September 11, until midnight on Monday, October 14.
